Campus Wide Risk Management with Speaker Lori Hart - January 16, 2013

Sororities and fraternities both have problems but don't always know how to solve them in the correct ways. People outside Greek life have bad stereotypes for us: unintelligent, promiscuous, superficial, drunk, etc. We need to stop contradicting ourselves and make people see us differently. We have to be willing to change. The best way to change things is to have real conversations with each other instead of talking behind each others backs and calling each other to standards. We all must contribute by changing ourselves and helping change sisters for the better in some way.

Lori Hart, the speaker, did an amazing job of communicating with us. She got her points across about everything mentioned in the previous paragraph, but she also had the entire audience laughing the majority of time. She emphasized that as chapters we need to try and get to the root of each sister and make her love and appreciate the organization. Lori even made a shout out to the Alpha Chi sisters in the audience saying that she loves our motto of "Real. Strong. Women." and feels we live up to it! Listening to everything Lori had to say was very beneficial and will help our chapter grow and improve.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

                                                                                    

On Sunday, November 18, the ladies of Alpha Chi Omega hosted the first event of the school year to bring awareness to domestic violence!

"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" is a fun filled event, in which male participants complete various obstacles courses, wearing heels the entire time.

Men from all over FSU came out in teams of 5 to Heritage Grove apartments to support our first fall philanthropy. The lawn was decorated with purple balloons and a stand of purple cupcakes, representing the color of domestic violence awareness. In the end, a trophy would be given to the winners of the tournament. Of course we provided the heels, but they brought their skills to run in heels with them!

"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" is an amazing opportunity for men to raise awareness in our community about the causes and effects of domestic violence. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who participated in this years event!

Getting to know the Fraternities that make up NIC

 

Founded in 1909, the North-American Interfraternity Conference is the trade association representing 73 International and National Men's Fraternities.  The NIC serves to advocate the needs of its member fraternities through enrichment of the fraternity experience; advancement and growth of the fraternity community; and enhancement of the educational mission of the host institutions. The NIC is also committed to enhancing the benefits of fraternity membership. Today, the NIC has 73 member organizations with approximately 5,500 chapters located on 800+ campuses in the United States and Canada with approximately 350,000 undergraduate members. The NIC is led by a Board of Directors comprised of nine volunteers from member fraternities. The headquarters and professional staff are located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
