Donuts for DVA

On October 5, our Beta Eta Chapter held Donuts for DVA to raise money for The Tallahassee Refuge House. We raised a total of $5,974, and in honor of our PH sister Holly Cummins, we donated half of the money raised to Alpha Phi's philanthropy. We are so proud to be a part of this strong, supportive community at Florida State.
Thank you to our VP Philanthropy Mindy Do, her assistant for Donut for DVA Shelby Young, and everyone who was involved and came out to support this cause!

Our donations to Refuge House #AXODVA #AltruisticAXO #VioletAgainstViolence

We appreciate the relationship we have with Refuge House. We help them monetarily through fundraising events like #PizzaPiewithAlphaChi and #DonutsforDVA. Sisters lend helping hands physically as well, by volunteering when needs arise such as painting or helping with Halloween carnivals. Refuge House holds trainings for our sisters, allowing AXOs to understand more about domestic violence awareness, and how we can help and advocate for the cause.

Healthy Relationships Week

February 9th-13th was Healthy Relationships Week! The women of the Beta Eta chapter of Alpha Chi held and participated in events, put together by Philanthropy Chair Lauren Flannery, throughout the week to celebrate healthy and loving relationships.  The week kicked off with an ice cream pajama party.  Sisters came to the house dawned in onesies and other wacky pajamas to bond and laugh over ice cream, fruit platters, and veggie platters.
To spread the word about domestic violence awareness and to get other students on campus thinking about the relationships in their lives, on Tuesday sisters wore the Alpha Chi Omega Domestic Violence Awareness philanthropy t-shirt with a healthy relationship sticker around campus.
On Wednesday, Alpha Chi set up a station at Market Wednesday! In the middle of the union and surrounded by all kinds of other organizations, sisters worked a free photo booth open to the public.
Finishing Healthy Relationships Week with a bang was the philanthropy event Pizza Pie with Alpha Chi. For five dollars a head, guests were ushered into the dinning room and served pizza and refreshments while Alpha chi sister Rebecca Epstein played the piano and sang.  This is the first year the Beta Eta chapter hosted Pizza Pie with Alpha Chi and the turn out was incredible. The event beginning at 6:30pm produced a line that was out the door and down the block at 6:15pm. Ultimately, 549 people attended the event, which raised just under $2000.  “I was definitely not prepared for how much support I got from everyone” says Philanthropy Chair Lauren Flannery, who is thrilled to have raised to much so donate to the Refuge House of Tallahassee.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

On Sunday, November 18, the ladies of Alpha Chi Omega hosted the first event of the school year to bring awareness to domestic violence!

"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" is a fun filled event, in which male participants complete various obstacles courses, wearing heels the entire time.

Men from all over FSU came out in teams of 5 to Heritage Grove apartments to support our first fall philanthropy. The lawn was decorated with purple balloons and a stand of purple cupcakes, representing the color of domestic violence awareness. In the end, a trophy would be given to the winners of the tournament. Of course we provided the heels, but they brought their skills to run in heels with them!

"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" is an amazing opportunity for men to raise awareness in our community about the causes and effects of domestic violence. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who participated in this years event!
Congratulations to the brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha for winning the tournament!
