McKayla Michaud #seniorSpotlight #WCW

Senior McKayla exemplifies all of AXO's five values. The chapter will be so sad to see her graduate in April. At Beta Eta, she served as the first vice president of collegiate recruitment information, VP-CRI, for the chapter during the Fall 2016 Recruitment. She set the bar so high by leading with fairness, class, compassion, and a calm personality. Currently, McKayla interns at Southeastern Plastic Surgery where alumna Kristen works.

Other fantastic highlights about McKayla:  She attended AXO Convention; she worked on a MEDLife trip to Peru, and she received a Melbourne Alumnae Panhellenic Scholarship.

New Member Ice Cream Social!

Last week, our New Members got together with NM15  for an ice cream social!
Alë Gonzalez planned the event for the new members to get to know more sisters. The event consisted of an ice cream and topping bar as well as a funny slideshow in which sisters got to show off their goofy sides and open up about what they like to do in their free time.
Overall, the event was a lot of fun and a great way for our Chapter to bond!

Shannon Nichols- VP of the Student Academy of Audiology

Shannon Nichols is the Vice President of the Student Academy of Audiology, a club that encourages awareness about the field of audiology and offers opportunities to volunteer and gain experience.
"As VP, I will be assisting the President in organizing events such as free hearing screenings, our annual kickball tournament, and other fundraising events for our club. A huge event that I am excited to begin fundraising for is our spring trip to Guatemala, where we will treat hearing loss of locals and provide technology they need to communicate better. We will also be building homes, donating lots of supplies, and helping to put as many kids as we can afford through school.
"I became VP because I'm extremely passionate about audiology, my future career field, due to personal experience with hearing loss. I understand the importance of communication for social, educational, and emotional wellbeing, so I really want to spread awareness about hearing loss prevention and treatment in order to help others. Megan Pettingill- Priority Home Inspections Intern

Megan Pettingill interned at Priority Home Inspections this summer!
"We inspect houses for insurance purposes and my specific job is to do the write up for each house by putting information into an excel sheet. Mackenzie Murray- Intern at Straight Up Films

Mackenzie Murray spent the summer interning at Straight Up Films, a film and television production company based in Los Angeles, California.
"I interned at Straight up Films from the beginning of June until the end of July, and I absolutely loved it! I was responsible for doing script coverage and creating writers' lists for their projects that are in development, as well as assisting the producers with whatever they need. It was cool to see everything that goes in to the development of a film and since it was a small company, I was able to offer my opinion and play a role in the process. It has been such a great opportunity to really learn the business and make life long connections.
"I also had the opportunity to assist a producer for the Lionsgate film 'Public Disturbance' that was in production. It was awesome getting to help out on a real set and watch the movie being filmed. When I wasn't working, I had plenty of time to travel around and see different cities in California, including San Diego, Laguna Beach, and Yosemite National Park. It was a great summer, and I look forward to moving back to California when I graduate!"

Amanda Corin- Intern at Radegen Sports Management

Amanda Corin just finished up an internship in New York City! This is the second summer she has spent interning in Manhattan.
This summer, I worked for a company this summer called Radegen Sports Management, and we did off-field contracting for athletes.  This means we did all of their endorsement contracts with companies such as Dunkin Donuts, Delta, Jet Blue, Fanatics, Core Power. The company represents players such as Big Papi (David Ortiz), Mohammad Wilkerson, Brandon Marshall, Ryan McDonagh, Jake Dalton and many more. We also manage their foundations so I got to attend and work their charity events, such as Mohammad Wilkerson's bowling event to raise money for Scholarships for kids to attend college.
I also got the opportunity to work David Ortiz's charity gala in Boston for the David Ortiz Children's Fund. They raise money to pay for hospital care for sick kids in the Boston area and also send money back for healthcare for kids in the Dominican Republic. Hopefully, I'll be back in the city next summer to either attend law school or continue in the industry of Sports Management, preferably with the NHL!

Carrie Hall- Intern for Trifecta Team PR

Carrie Hall is currently interning for Trifecta Team PR!
"As an intern, I gather up a database that we will be using to inform the public about the events surrounding the college football championship game and the game itself that will be at Raymond James stadium here in Tampa, Florida. I'll work this internship up until the championship game in January so there's more little tasks involved like contacting news and radio stations and getting air time for advertisements and interviews. I also get the opportunity in December to work at the St. Petersburg bowl game that's played in Tropicana field with Trifecta team, and it'll be my second year doing that job for them!
"I eventually want to work in operations for a sports company. My ultimate goal is to do event operations for ESPN! I love my internship now because I get to be very involved with the planning and work that goes into the PR surrounding the college football championship game."

2016 National Alpha Chi Omega Convention

The 2016 National Alpha Chi Omega Convention was held in Orlando, FL this year with the theme Sunshine & Sisterhood. The Beta Eta Chapter being in Florida was fortunate enough to send multiple advisors and executive board members.
"I, Gianna Traylor, VP of Chapter Relations and Standards attended as the chapter voting delegate. Vice President Philanthropy Mindy Do, VP Membership programming Alex Dering, VP Collegiate Recruitment Information Mckayla Michaud, Whitney Bogard, and Anna Brown attended as a convention page as well on behalf of the chapter.

"We began the weekend with a welcome dinner on Friday night and a National Chapter Meeting on Saturday. At the National Chapter Meeting, as the chapter delegate, I was able to vote on behalf of the chapter for our new national council for the 2016-2016 year which included our new national president, Angela Costley Harris. Throughout the day we had a sisterhood luncheon, listened to key note speaker Molly Cain, attended educational sessions, and ended the night with a reunion night dinner with over 60 Beta Eta alumna! Sunday was similar with another National Chapter Meeting, a foundation luncheon, listened to keynote speaker Abi Ferrin, more educational sessions, then ending with a final night dinner and dessert reception.
"Along with reaching overall accreditation of at least Alpha status during the 2015 year period, Beta Eta also received the 2016 Seeking the Heights: Community Relations award for our involvement in the community and willingness to help others. So proud!
"The weekend was definitely one to remember filled with memories, friendships and new friends; and valuable and relevant knowledge. There is something so special about experiencing the ritual in a room full of over 900 sisters from all over the country and all walks of life. We are so excited to bring back everything we have learned to the chapter and see ways in new ways we can seek the heights!"

Ashley Riley- Intern at the Quattro Firm

Ashley Riley is currently interning at the Quattro Firm with founding partner Nicole Quattrocchi!

"The Quattro firm is very unique in that it is run entirely by women.  As an aspiring female lawyer, it is very encouraging and uplifting to work with strong women in a typically male-dominated field.  When I have attended consultations, I have learned the process of building a case from its outset and learned how to engage with clients and to relate to them on a personal level.

"Recently, I’ve been given the responsibility of doing legal research and drafts of legal documents such as Memorandums of law, official court orders, and official demand letters. I have also assisted in trial preparation, learning how to create formal trial folders consisting of all relevant legal documents including past pleadings, communication, and research done for the case, and how to prepare negotiation documents in order to advocate for your client. Aside from court cases, I have been able to write and draft wills and estate planning for clients, giving me first-hand experience with writing and formatting a legal document."

Alë Gonzales- Intern at TIF

Alë Gonzales is currently interning at The Immokalee Foundation (TIF), a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide better educational opportunities for the children of Immokalee, Florida.

"The organization has three sectors; their readers program which is centered around elementary school aged children, their Take Stock in Children sector which focuses on middle/high school success, and their post-secondary program which guides students through college or a vocational pathway. I'll be working with the post-secondary sector, organizing collegiate information so that students have all the information necessary in order to decide what they would like to do after high school.

"TIF is also heavily involved in the lives of alumni and ensuring alumni success so  I will also be reaching out to alumni concerning their current status, and at times asking for testimonies so that current students are able to visualize and realize their goals. This is an amazing opportunity for me as I am a double major in International Affairs and Business Management and this will serve as a learning experience about careers in development and relief and what it will be like as I further my education."

Kathryn Hatfield- Study Abroad Experience

Kat Hatfield just returned home from studying in Valencia, Spain for the past 6 weeks!
"Studying abroad in Valencia, Spain was the best six weeks of my life. I was able to check things off my bucket list everyday and share these experiences with new people whom I now consider life long friends. I was also lucky enough to have three other ΑΧΩ sisters studying abroad with me.
Veronica Marcos, Melissa Demarchena, Anna Morris, and Kat in Valencia, Spain.
"By the end of the six week term, I had traveled to the Palma de Mallorca & Barcelona, Spain; Split & Hvar, Croatia; Amsterdam, Holland; and Lagos, Portugal. I learned that all the cliche things people say about how traveling changes ones' perspective on life are true. I came back to the states with so much more knowledge about the world and a refreshed perspective about life."

Lauren Flannery- Intern at the Four Seasons

Lauren Flannery, our chapter President, is currently interning at the Four Seasons in Boston, Massachusetts.
"I'm working in the Food & Beverage department, rotating between positions in the restaurant and in-room dining while also shadowing some managers (the way hotels hire out of college is through a manager in training program). It's a pretty rigorous program, but a great company and some amazing people who make me look forward to going into work at weird hours and days!

"My favorite part about it is that I'm never standing still or sitting down--there's always something to do or learn. It also doesn't hurt that Boston is such a great city with so many different cultures and traditions. Even though I didn't know a single person coming into the city, I have made some incredible connections with the people at the Four Seasons who have really taken to looking out for me while I'm here."

Kayla McNulty- Hospital Shadow

This summer, Kayla McNulty has been shadowing Dr. Goecker, Chief of Podiatry, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital!

"Every week the doctor and team of nurses work in the wound care unit of the hospital where patients come in with open wounds below the knee that the team of experts treat. I have learned so much so far because as the doctor is working on each patient, he explains to me the backstory and their treatment plan. I have seen everything from a small cut that need help closing to large open wounds that cover most of the leg.
I have met so many people that have told me that if it wasn't for Dr. Goecker and his treatment, they would be without a leg or toes. I plan on going into Nursing, so this internship has been a great experience for me to become even more passionate about the field and confident that this is the career for me."

Something really cool about it is that there are 55 interns from all over the country and we all live in one apartment building together so we have already become so close. I'm really excited to learn and grow this summer alongside these amazing people!"

Adriana Diaz-Granados: Make a Wish Foundation! #FSUAXOSummer

Adriana Diaz-Granados is currently interning at the Make a Wish Foundation Wishing Palace!

"I am working under the 'mission delivery' sector which has to do with granting and coordinating the wishes. Our chapter specifically grants about 450 wishes a year, each wish takes about 8 months of planning and the average wish is 9,800 dollars so a lot of fundraising and development goes into it as well.
"We invite the kids to the palace and the entire inside is designed by the people who design Disney, so its very kid friendly and insanely awesome. We talk to the kids and bring them into 'inspiration rooms' and show them a bunch of different options of wishes they could have. The kids can either go somewhere (for example: Disney or Hawaii), meet someone (a celebrity, athlete), get the chance to be someone (policeman, football player), or have something (computer, car, puppy).Once they come up with their wish we put in all the work to make sure it gets done and that everything is super fun."

This is a great stepping-stone for my aspirations of working with events and operations in the sports and entertainment industry. I am looking forward to the rest of this summer living in our nation's capital, and also what this internship has to offer!"
