On
December 3, Senior Katie Desorcy served as a Sleep Out Leader for Capital City
Youth Services (CCYS) in Tallahassee, FL. The CCYS is an emergency crisis
center for the homeless and runaway youth in Tallahassee. The Sleep Out was a
fundraiser that included about 40 people from all ages in the city that raised
money for the homeless youth. The night also was to raise awareness for the
homelessness in the area.
Katie says
that next year she wants to be even more involved and make the event bigger.
Because most people aren’t aware of how many children and students are homeless
in our community, she hopes to get others to participate in this once in a life
time experience. “It was a learning experience like no other, and everyone
should do it because it really teaches you to emphasize with others and put
yourself in their shoes.”
Katie is
also a senior graduating in the Spring. Throughout her time in Alpha Chi Omega,
she has served as the Facility Operations Assistant and was on the New Member
Committee. She is also very involved in Alpha Chi’s intramural sports,
especially with being Captain of the flag football team.
